The beautiful Marechal Deodoro county is only 31 km away from Maceió, Alagoas. Originally, it was founded with the name of "Vila Madalena do Sumaúna" on August 5, 1591, would come later, on April 12, 1636, to be renamed to "Villa Santa Madalena da Lagoa do Sul". On September 16, 2006, the day of Alagoas political emancipation, was considered by the Ministry of Culture as the National Historical Heritage, by its past history and the birthplace of Deodoro da Fonseca, proclaimer of the Brazilian Republic. Marechal Deodoro city has a beautiful and rich architectural heritage that you can see in the museums and churches, dating in the 16, 17 and 18 centuries. And you can also find lace-makers that produce the original handcraft in labyrinth and filet design.

Marechal Deodoro is a city bathed by Manguaba lagoon, and it hosts important tourist attractions, such as the gorgeous and famous “Praia do Francês” beach, known by its beauty with the ocean water, that comes from green to crystal blue. The city is also world renowned by hosting international surfing championships. It was named “Marechal Deodoro” because it was through it that the French, shortly after the discovery of Brazil, made transportation of “Pau Brasil” (Brazilian wood of higthest quality).
